Is Astral Projection in the Bible?

Intro

I am spiritual. Not religious. I do not identify with the Christian religion, but I came from this background. It is dominant in my immediate family. If I had to identify with a form of christianity, it would be “Christian Mysticism”. This form of christianity was, if not the original, one of the beginning forms of Christianity. In this belief system they practiced mystical arts of spirituality, alchemy, transformation, and other practices that are frowned upon today in the current Christian religion. The prior wasn’t a rigid religion. It was a belief system. They understood there is more to the world than what meets the eye. Early Christian mysticism, Gnosticism, and Jewish mysticism contain esoteric teachings about soul travel and transcendence.

Is Astral Projection in the Bible?

In my opinion. The Bible is highly allegorical, and I believe, tells us truths of reality without naming the truth. For example. The Bible does not explicitly use the phrase “astral projection”, but it contains passages that are interpreted to refer to out-of-body experiences or spiritual journeys.

Relevant Bible Verses

2 Corinthians 12:2-4: Describes a man caught up to the “third heaven,” unsure if the experience was “in the body or out of the body.”

Ezekiel 8:3: Ezekiel’s spirit is lifted and taken to Jerusalem by a spiritual being.

Revelation 4:1-2: John is told to “come up here,” and is immediately “in the spirit,” with visions of heaven.

Genesis 28:12-13: Jacob dreams of a stairway between earth and heaven, with angels ascending and descending.

Luke 24:31 & John 20: Jesus appears and disappears at will, walks through walls after resurrection— viewed as mastery of spiritual or astral forms.

Matthew 17:1-3: The Transfiguration: Jesus, Moses, and Elijah are seen glowing and conversing in non-ordinary states.

Interpretations:

Many biblical visions and travels are seen as divinely initiated rather than consciously self-initiated. Now. I highly believe most people's experiences during these times may have been divinely guided because knowledge of this occurrence, practice, skill, or possibility were less known. As we come to a place of infinite information available at our finger tips. We can gather the understanding that we can initiate this practice on our own. But whatever first in one’s experience is whatever occurs. Allow it to happen..

When we think of the occurrence of sleep paralysis. I do believe that this is the “Other Side” provoking one to cross over into the Astral Realm. Astral Projection must occur with the body fully immobilized. My first experiences weren't divinely guided, but I was definitely starting to have experiences of “sleep paralysis” - which then led me to research why it occurs and to understand it more. I discovered that another term for “Sleep Paralysis” is "Hypnagogia", and that this is the condition in which our inner bodies can leave our flesh body. I figured why not give it a try. The next day I successfully started having “Astral Projection, or Soul Travel” experiences. Biblical and mystical experiences align with concepts of soul travel and spiritual ascent. Paralleling Astral Projection. Same thing. Different names. When approached from a open minded mystical approach. It’s the same context.

My Personal Experiences with Astral Projection

Astral projection is seen as the spirit and consciousness traveling outside the body. I have hundreds of experiences. These include: Stepping out of my body into a “Light form”, and seeing my flesh body immobilized; being taken or pulled out of my body by spiritual beings to different realms, and visiting places that defy the physical laws of Earth; Encounters with angels and various astral communities, as well as perceptions of “heavenly” and “hellish” places; Splitting in two, and experiencing myself in my etheric body, interacting with my human “simple” self, and having conversations where I could realize my ego was understanding the occurrence, not just my spirit. 

Visiting and meeting with loved ones that have crossed over to the “over side”, or who have “passed away”. And interacting with them. Animal and Human loved ones. It doesn’t matter the form or type of being. “Tracking” animals that are misplaced from their owners, or lost on the Earth. Discovering and absorbing information in areas of the Earth or beyond. Meeting soul’s or individuals who I have played different roles with in other lives. Projecting and inhabiting the body of other versions of me in different dimensions living a different life. Visiting other people alive in this dimension, but also living in other dimension, different versions of myself, or other people I know in this life. Talking to spirits that are on this Earth,but afraid to move on.

I believe this sums up the majority of my experiences. 

Types of Astral Bodies:

Etheric Body: Described as a “human double,” sometimes visible to others during projection. So when they say they saw Jesus resurrect, but also walk through walls, and transform before their very eyes, numerous times. I believe he may have been visiting Earth, but in this form. We have the potential to do this. We have the potential to do anything. I have teleported to other places on the Earth, and have witnessed myself in my etheric body, which looks like my flesh body, and have witnessed other people take notice of me. It’s a bit unsettling, but magical..

Light Body: Subtler, “invisible or translucent”, used intentionally when visiting places to avoid confusion or detection.

Non-Canonical and Esoteric Texts:

Gospel of Thomas (Saying 3): Describes the kingdom as both inside and outside oneself, to be realized through self-knowledge beyond the personality.

Ascension of Isaiah 9:6-7: Describes angelic guidance and soul travel to see “the whole structure” of the world and the heavens.

Hermetica (Corpus Hermeticum): Advocates leaving the body behind to recognize true, immortal selfhood.

Gospel of Mary Magdalene: The “soul’s ascent” and freedom from attachments described as a process akin to astral travel.

Zohar 199b: During sleep, the soul roams above and is shown mysteries, paralleling astral projection.

Hymn of the Pearl: Soul recognizes its origin and ascends back to the light, leaving the “earthly garment” behind.

Philokalia (Eastern Orthodoxy): Deep prayer leads to the soul’s transcendence and union with divine light.

Further Realizations from My Experience:

“Soul Travel and Astral Projection” may be a way we can achieve deeper connection with the divine. Fusing with the divine means certain aspects of our human reality must be transcended, redefined, or thrown out completely to achieve “greater or divine” understanding or consciousness. Communication with beings often requires transcending human-centric questions (e.g., “are you dead or alive?”). Encounters often become lessons about the nature of identity and spirit, challenging the construct of “human,” or “egoic” concepts. Astral experiences sometimes deliver actionable guidance, divine messages, or instructions. (e.g., from my experience - being told to leave a relationship, to start sharing these messages through various modalities, to release fear, to build deeper practices in my path of ascension). 

Upon returning, the change in perspective persists, providing a greater sense of fearlessness and life purpose, spiritual ascent, remembrance of soul origins, overcoming ego and attachments, and recognizing the “earthly garment” (body) as temporary. Experiencing the astral realm leads to living less from ego (“human” identity) and more from spirit. After transformative astral experiences, fear of death diminishes or drastically lowers because we realize even spirits are alive, sense of peace and confidence increases. Silence and solitude become treasured, deeply restorative states following spiritual travel.

Concusion

Is Astral Projection in the Bible? Yes I believe so. Whether you are a Christian, or a Spiritual learner or absorber of reality.

We can learn from everything. And we can learn even more with an open mind.
